Funding source: USAID/Board for International Food and Agriculture
Development (BIFAD)

Working with a counterpart team from Guyana, SECID applied baseline
study methodologies established by USAID/BIFAD and collected data on all aspects
of the agricultural research, extension and education systems in Guyana. Analysis focused on:

  • Qualitative and quantitative estimates of the educational system to provide
    sufficient numbers of trained personnel;
  • Assessment of the agricultural research institution's capacity to conduct
    research and extension to increase the productivity of small-scale farmers;
  • An assessment of the level of cooperation among research, extension
    and education units;
  • Evaluation of agricultural policy formulation and delivery of technical and
    economic information;
  • Determination of the specific services required to meet agricultural and
    general economic development goals; and
  • Evaluation of government policies on the agricultural research, extension
    and education system.
